  • What is a mesh network?
    A mesh network isn’t always needed, but when your home has difficult-to-cover WIFI dead spots, a mesh network is the answer. The mesh network uses a small device plugged into one or more wall outlets to provide a powerful signal throughout the home.
  • What is an IP set-top box?
    Each television in your home will be required to have a set-top box. One set-top box is included with your TV subscription, but each additional television will require rental of additional set-top boxes. While they are called “set-top” boxes, they are actually quite small and, in many cases, can be mounted behind your TV, so they are out of the way.
  • What if I only want HBO or another premium channel?
    If you want access to a premium channel like HBO, Cinemax, or NFL Red Zone (who doesn’t love some football?), it will require a subscription to Basic TV along with a subscription to the premium channel you want to add.
  • What is Time Shift?
    Commonly referred to as DVR (digital video recorder), Time Shift allows you to pause, record, and playback programming on multiple TVs simultaneously. NHMU will offer two options for Time Shift or DVR. Whole-home DVR will record up to 100 hours of programming and DVR Plus will record up to 200 hours of programming.
  • Will weather affect my signal?
    NHMU’s state of the art fiber network will not be affected by the weather. You will be able to stream, watch, and talk regardless of what mother nature throws at us.
  • What is an ONT?
    The ONT (optical network terminal) is the hardware that converts a signal from the fiber optic network to your phone, TV, or computer. Each home or business that signs up for service will be provided an ONT by NHMU at no charge. Depending on the services you subscribe to, you may still need additional hardware like a router or set-top box.
  • How is the phone system set up?
    You will have two options for your phone system. You can continue using your existing telephone wiring, and your phone will work just as it does now, or you can use a cordless phone connected to hardware provided by NHMU. You can determine the set up with you want when your installation team arrives.
  • Will services be available for residents near New Hampton but outside city limits?
    NHMU communication services are currently being offered only to residents within the City of New Hampton.   • How reliable are NHMU services?
    NHMU is built from the ground up to be the most reliable network in New Hampton. Fiber optic networks like NHMU provide highly reliable internet, cable TV, and telephone service.
  • Are there any data limits?
    All of NHMU’s internet plans will include UNLIMITED data. You’ll have plenty of bandwidth for all your surfing and video streaming needs and will never have to worry about overages!
